Our work depends on an Application Hosting Lead joining our team to support one of our federal customers with locations in Bethesda, Rockville, and Frederick.
This will be a hybrid onsite / remote position; however, the successful candidate will be local to the DC Metropolitan area to facilitate onsite presence when needed.

As an Applications Engineer Lead supporting GDIT's federal customer, you will be trusted to lead a team in providing hosting services and support.
In this role, a typical day will include leading the team in performing the following activities:
Provide technical consultation to project teams and end-users on application hosting solutions, implementation processes, application performance tuning, application migration, application deployment, and application security.
Collaborate with other technical teams to provide technical consultation to project teams for more effective use of infrastructure and platform technologies and tools and conduct architectural reviews of their applications.
Coordinate with the responsible group(s) (example:
network, storage, server, security) to provision systems and collaborate with the project team.
Provide customer support for incidents, documentation, performance, on-call support, and monitoring.
Coordinate with server, storage, and database teams to provide and implement plans for data backup/restoration, remediation, and disaster recovery.
Provide maintenance and contingency plans, determine risks and mitigation strategy, and resource plans.
Provide 24x7 ongoing monitoring and alert services for all hosted applications, using dashboards and software management tools provided by the Government and for Customer-Managed and Co-Location upon request.
Provide on-call support and response to project team requests for all hosted application systems, including ticket tracking, and incident resolution.
Conduct operation and maintenance to support the existing application hosting environments and make recommendations on improving application hosting solutions by collaborating with the customer, representatives of industry, and leading hardware manufacturers and resellers.
Provide application hosting services to NCI users and stakeholders that are available on multiple platforms with managed storage, backup services, and disaster recovery, load balancing and failover optionsSet up and maintain software for web servers, application servers, related components, and tools in the hosting environment to support application hosting.
These include configuration and administration of Apache, IIS, Tomcat, JBoss, Drupal, Java/Perl/PHP/R/Python, Jenkins, Nexus Maven, and Oracle Weblogic Suite.
Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Application Server are currently used but will be migrated to Oracle Weblogic Suite.
Consult with the security team to manage the hosting environment to comply with security policy for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, Open Directory, and Active Directory, OpenLDAP, OpenSSL, and digital certificates.
Comply with Hosting Service Level Agreements (SLA).
Provide administration and user support for SharePoint Online.
Host and provide operation and maintenance, and user support for Jira.
Conduct all application deployments to Stage and Production environments and assist in application deployments to the Dev and QA environments if requested by the projectCoordinate with the responsible groups such as network, storage, and security, for the provisioning of virtual and physical server infrastructure per project team requirements.
Assist the project team with application operations and maintenance, upgrades, migrations, and performance tuning.
Provide 24 hours per day, 7 days per week monitoring and alerting services for all hosted applications, and respond to those events and incidents per project team requirementImplement application specific monitoring, alert, and logging requirements that are required by the project team.
Provide custom server-side scripting and automation.
Create custom packages for automation such as application deployment and upgrades.
Implement and administer COTS applications.
Manage and administer code repositories.
Assist the project team in installing and testing hardware in the Co-location facility.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
REQUIRED:
BS/BA or equivalent and 10 years technical experienceITIL certification is highly desired but will consider candidates with proven experience following the ITIL framework and processes.
Candidates should be prepared to provide detailed experience and knowledge of ITSM practices throughout the lifecycle, from service management to change management, problem and incident management, asset management, continual service improvement and knowledge management.
Good understanding of Agile software development practices.

years' hands-on experience in Cloud Web Application Hosting.

years in a technical leadership role overseeing a minimum of 6 peopleThe ability to work a hybrid schedule from your home office as well as supporting our Bethesda, Rockville and Frederick, MD offices onsite as needed.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be able to give presentations to your team, peers, and senior management, and represent the concerns and challenges of your team to the rest of the organization in a clear and professional manner.
DESIRED:
Good understanding of enterprise IT and modern system engineering practices, such as DevSecOps, infrastructure as code, ephemeral infrastructure, shifting left with security, and continuous integrationProficiency in application operation and maintenance support for multiple infrastructure platforms and software applications.
These technologies include Windows server OS, Linux server OS, Apache, IIS, Tomcat, JBoss, and Drupal, Java/Perl/PHP/R/Python, and Oracle Weblogic Suite.
Experience working with software developers and making decisions to engineer custom technical solutions and optimize delivery.
Experience working in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
Expert knowledge of Windows operating systemsExperience in managing hardware load balanced applicationsExperience with commonly used services such as AWS EC2, S3, Route 53, and RDS.
Experience analyzing solutions components, understanding systems integration challenges, and identifying technology gaps in current components that must be resolved to reach future performance targets and functionality requirements in cloud infrastructure.
