Ethics Specialist
The position of Ethics Specialist falls under the 0301 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-11/12, you must meet the following:
Minimum Qualifications Requirements Specialized Experience. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. GS-11 You must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-0301-9 in the Federal service that includes specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. The required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Examples may include but not limited to:
Providing guidance concerning highly sensitive ethics issues that have a significant impact on organizational operations; providing authoritative written and verbal advice to all levels of management and employees on complex ethics issues including conflicts of interests and financial disclosure; developing, administering, and implementing, and interpreting ethics policies, procedures, and guidance materials. -or- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree -or- 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. -or- A combination of specialized experience and graduate level education as stated above that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. GS-12 You must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-0301-11 in the Federal service that includes experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Serving as a subject matter expert on a wide range of complex, often unprecedented, and highly sensitive ethics issues that have a significant impact on organizational operations; providing authoritative written and verbal advice to all levels of management and employees on complex ethics issues including conflicts of interests and financial disclosure; developing, administering, and monitoring the effectiveness of ethics training; and developing, implementing, and interpreting ethics policies, procedures, and guidance materials. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
